    t live a modern life without laptops tablets and smart phones our dear electronic devices are useless when the battery is out of power Energy provision encompasses attempts to meet the needs of the world s current population without negatively impacting future generations The demand for energy increases each year yet we are faced with finite fuel resources There is pressure on industry to cut emissions and to introduce energy efficiency measures The government and private sector face the challenge of determining how to provide more energy for more people while at the same time cutting greenhouse gases GHG and pollution The provision of energy involves complex supply chains and processes often involving cross border trade and the distribution of volatile substances Raw materials samples products services management systems or personnel can be evaluated against specified requirements by testing and calibration laboratories certification bodies and inspection bodies Conformity assessment is used to check that products are fit and safe for consumption against a standard a code of practice or regulatory requirements that bring confidence to the marketplace Head of Latvian National Accreditation Bureau Olga Veilande admits The European Union Emissions Trading System EU ETS is the cornerstone of the EU s drive to reduce emissions of man made greenhouse gases Business operators must monitor and report their EU ETS emissions for each year and the emission report must be checked by a verifier which is accredited by a National Accreditation Body that has been assessed and approved by EA This system is defined in the EU Regulations 600 2012 and 601 2012 About accreditation The Latvian National accreditation body is the Latvian National Accreditation Bureau LATAK LATAK is a signatory of the Multilateral Agreement of the European Cooperation for Accreditation EA MLA Accreditation is attestation conducted by the national accreditation

    out on April 10 2014 passed a positive decision on retention of the LATAK status of an EA MLA signatory The LATAK status of an EA MLA signatory is in the following scopes accreditation of testing laboratories ISO 17025 including accreditation of medicine laboratories ISO 15185 accreditation of calibration laboratories ISO 17025 accreditation of product certification bodies ISO 45011 17065 accreditation of bodies for certification of persons ISO 17024 accreditation of inspection bodies ISO 17020 accreditation of management system certification bodies ISO 17021 EA Multilateral Agreement was expanded with greenhouse gas GHG scope ISO 14065 The decision on retention of the EA MLA signatory was passed under the following conditions by February 15 2015 to notify EA Cooperation on changes in the legal status of LATAK and its compliance to requirements of ISO 17011 standard and Regulation of the Regulation EC No 765 2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council by February 15 2015 to notify EA Cooperation on the progress in the scope of accreditation of medicine laboratories The next EA MLA audit is scheduled in 4 years in year 2017 EA Multilateral Agreement with the expanded scope will be signed within the EA General Assembly in

    these documents set out accessibility requirements that can be applied to a wide range of products and services related to ICT including computers smartphones and other digital devices ticketing machines websites and emails The aim is to ensure that ICT products and services are accessible either directly or through compatibility with assistive technologies such as text to speech so that everyone can access information and use services that are being delivered electronically The new European Standard and its accompanying Technical Reports provide a framework for developing a wide range of applications that will make ICT products and services more accessible for the 80 million Europeans who are living with various types of disability Potential applications include audio and or tactile interfaces that can be used by visually impaired persons or hardware such as smartphones and laptops that can be operated using one hand EN 301 549 is the most up to date standard for ICT accessibility and it was developed through an inclusive process with the active involvement of relevant stakeholders While the accessibility requirements are defined in a form that is suitable for use in public procurement they could also be used in other contexts such as procurement in the private sector Luis Jorge Romero ETSI s Director General said Addressing accessibility is now becoming an important market driven necessity and ETSI aims to help industry and operators to avoid creating technologies that exclude users from the information society We also aim to help increase the quality and usability of products and services for everyone with standardization processes that ensure consideration of Design for All issues in every newly developed standard if appropriate Elena Santiago Cid Director General of CEN and CENELEC said In CEN and CENELEC we believe that including accessibility requirements in European standards will deliver both
