    1994 Since 2009 LATAK operates in the same organization with the National Standardization body LVS and National Metrology body LatMB LATAK performs accreditation of testing calibration and medical laboratories inspection bodies product management system and person certification bodies LATAK also performs accreditation of environment verifiers according to EMAS and EU ETS regulations and laboratory assessment according to the principles of Good Laboratory Practice Accreditation is conducted in accordance with international standards the requirements whereof are established both for activities of an accreditation body and for operations of conformity assessment bodies of various types Detailed information regarding accreditation criteria is available in the section Accreditation criteria Advantages of accreditation The importance of accreditation increases with each year not only in Europe but in Latvia as well Accreditation helps to reduce technical trade barriers and increases trust of consumers public administration and enterprises in quality and safety of products and services The conformity assessment bodies operating both in private sector and in public sector may request accreditation as verification of competency of their activities Accreditation is the top level instrument in the whole hierarchy of quality provision to ensure and verify conformity of products and the provided services to requirements of safety health and environment protection As accreditation is also internationally recognized it increasingly more widely used in trade of goods and services and in mutual recognition as well as serves as the instrument of competence verification of a conformity assessment body for state administration bodies if they choose to delegate certain conformity assessment activities testing calibration inspection and certification Products certified by an accredited certification body or tested in an accredited laboratory gain greater trust from consumers buyers and market players Once tested or certified accepted everywhere watch video International recognition Accreditation is conducted in accordance with international standards of series

    of operations of such systems providing information on achievements in the area of environment and engaging in an open dialogue with the public and other stakeholders actively involving employees of the organizations in development of environment management systems and providing appropriate training REGULATION EC No 1221 2009 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of November 25 20092009 2009 gada 25 novembrison the voluntary participation by organizations in a Community eco management and audit scheme EMAS repealing Regulation EC No 761 2001 and Commission Decisions 2001 681 EC and 2006 193 EC EMAS Regulation establishes that environment verifier is a conformity assessment body which has obtained accreditation Pursuant to Environment Protection Law the elements required for registration in the environment management and audit system are inspected and approved by an accredited environment verifier Latvian National Accreditation Bureau LATAK of the Public Limited liability company Standardization Accreditation and Metrology Centre in the order set forth by the Cabinet of Ministers conducts accreditation of environment verifiers and monitors their activities as well as establishes and maintains register of environment verifiers Any individual or legal entity may become an environment verifier if such entity possesses corresponding qualification in the area of environment and knowledge on EMAS which is verified by an accreditation certificate Environment verifier must be independent it may not be related to the organization to be audited LVS EN ISO IEC 17011 and LVS EN ISO IEC 17021 standard EMAS Regulation Guidelines of Forum of Accreditation and Licensing Bodies FALB set forth in the Article 30 of EMAS Regulation the applicable EA and IAF documents as well as other applicable normative enactments are applied in the assessment process of environment verifiers in Latvian National accreditation system LATAK has developed the following documents for environment verifiers see the section Documents Accreditation
